Housing authorities offer a variety of public housing assistance to those that qualify for the services. In order to find a listing for the public housing commission in your area, you can go to an online directory that offers numbers nationwide. Type in your city and state and you should find your local listing for the public housing authorities under the government section. Public housing commissions not only have funding for rent assistance, they also make sure that the real estate their clients live in are in compliance with local laws and regulations. A real estate company cannot expect that just because their tenants receive funding from the housing operations that they are not regulated. In fact, many of these public housing operations are regulated more strictly than other properties in order to avoid the slum lord situation. If you believe that the property that you get through the housing authorities does not comply with local regulations, then you should contact them to make a complaint. They will send an inspector from the association to make sure the property meets their expectations. If they decide that the property needs to be fixed, then you might need help finding a new place to live while changes are being made. Ask them if the local housing commission will fund your move and if it will be temporary or permanent. Ask them if they have a list of properties in your area that you can move into while the repairs are being made to your home.
